10BASE-T1S Ethernet – CAN(/FD) Gateway Protocol Specification
The media gateway can be used as a 10BASE-T1S – Ethernet switch (media converter) enabling a bi-directional communication between the 10BASE-T1S port, the standard Ethernet port, and the MCU, or as an Ethernet-CAN(/FD) gateway providing a data bridge between the Ethernet ports (10BASE-T1S and 100BASE-TX) and the CAN(/FD) channel. Gateway function for bridging a 10BASE-T1S network and a CAN/CAN FD bus can be configured over the embedded web server. The device can also be used as a USB to CAN(/FD) and an Ethernet – CAN(/FD) interface.
The Single-Pair Ethernet 10BASE-T1S port supports both CSMA/CD and PLCA modes, and allows for point-to-point and multi-drop network topologies. The port configuration, such as mode, BEACON transmission (PLCA coordinator), Node ID / Node count, and bus termination, can be easily set by on-board DIP switches or via web interface. 10BASE-T1S test modes can also be generated.

10BASE-T1S Media Conversion
The 10BASE-T1S port, 10BASE-T/100BASE-TX port, and the MCU are connected by an internal Ethernet switch circuit, enabling Ethernet packets to be routed between all the Ethernet ports. Hence, a media conversion between 10BASE-T1S and 10BASE-T1/100BASE-TX ports can be easily realized.
10BASE-T1S – CAN(/FD) Gateway
The media gateway can realize a communication bridge between the Ethernet (10BASE-T1S or 10/100BASE-TX ports) and the CAN(/FD) network. It enables the forwarding of received CAN(/FD) frames to the Ethernet, and conversely, received Ethernet packets to the CAN(/FD) bus. The gateway communication protocol specifies the format of TCP or UDP packets.
C language SDK
The C language SDK (available on request) can be used to develop a custom device firmware. This provides the user a full control over the MCU and its peripherals, and extends the use-case scenarios. The SDK allows to use the on-board Ethernet switch and the Ethernet ports (MCU, 10BASE-T1S, 100BASE-TX), CAN(/FD) channel, LEDs, and DIP switches. The IDE and compiler are available free-of-charge. The custom firmware can be flashed into the device’s MCU over web, USB or ICSP. Debugging and stepping through the code is also possible with appropriate tools.
